Total solar eclipse in Marbella on 2 August 2027

Beautiful sea views from balcony on first level

A total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain on Monday 2 August 2027, and Marbella is in the path of totality. It is an extraordinary reason to plan a family holiday, but the useful preparations are simple: understand the timing, bring certified eye protection and leave room for a slow morning.

What time will the eclipse happen in Marbella?

The Marbella eclipse timetable from timeanddate currently lists the partial phase beginning at approximately 09:41 CEST, maximum eclipse at 10:48, and the partial phase ending at 12:01. Totality at maximum is listed as about three minutes and 21 seconds.

Those times are useful for planning, not a promise of clear weather. Recheck the local timetable and the forecast nearer the date. The eclipse is a morning event, so there is no need to build the whole day around a late-night excursion.

Local tip: Choose your viewing place the day before. An unobstructed view of the Sun matters more than finding a famous lookout. Do not assume a terrace, beach or pool area has a clear line of sight without checking.

How can everyone watch safely?

Looking directly at the Sun can permanently damage eyes. During the partial phases, every person needs a proper solar viewer, including children and anyone taking photographs. Use viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard, inspect them for damage and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Ordinary sunglasses are not eclipse glasses. Neither are smoked glass, photographic neutral-density filters, CDs or exposed film. Do not look through an unfiltered camera, telescope or binoculars while wearing eclipse glasses: the optics can concentrate sunlight through the viewer.

A pinhole projector is a simple indirect alternative for children. It projects an image of the Sun rather than requiring anyone to look at it. If somebody feels eye discomfort, stop viewing and seek qualified advice.

What should you plan around the morning?

Keep breakfast flexible and avoid scheduling an airport transfer or a long drive during totality. August is busy on the Costa del Sol, so allow extra time on the roads even if you only plan a short journey. Carry water, hats and sunscreen; eclipse viewing can involve standing outside in summer heat.

Think about comfort for different generations. A chair for a grandparent, a pinhole projector for a child and a shared plan for the few minutes of darkness are more useful than complicated equipment. Never leave children to supervise their own eye safety.

The sea-view photograph above shows the villa, not the predicted eclipse. It is not a claim that totality will be visible from this balcony. Check the actual sightline before settling on any viewing location.

Why stay for more than one night?

A longer stay gives the family time to enjoy the coast without treating the eclipse as a rushed appointment. Spend another morning at the beach, use the area guide to choose a relaxed outing and leave an unplanned afternoon for a meal together.

Villa Molinero has four bedrooms for up to eight guests, plus outdoor space for regrouping after the morning. It can work for two families planning ahead, but availability must always be checked rather than assumed.
